3. Low-income clients (Page 3 of 3) “Is financial assistance available for low-income men?”
Some men tell us that a C$100 face-to-face counseling fee is beyond their means. For these clients, we suggest the following:
“Do you offer a sliding scale?” Clients sometimes ask for a sliding scale, a system in which low-income clients pay less than those who are better off. Gay Men's Counseling does not offer this option because we believe it discriminates against less-assertive men, who are usually reluctant to ask for payment relief. Furthermore, it is difficult to assess fairly a client's level of financial hardship. We believe a single rate, combined with Time Plan, is fair for everyone. In extreme cases, an individual payment plan based on income tax records will be considered for face-to-face clients only. |
